It’s been an amazing journey, taking us from BlogTO to the CBC and across the GTA to over dozens of grocery stores. We’re in talks with regional Grocery Banners across Canada to discover new and exciting ways to bring Aisle Magic to Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

While we’ve been quiet, it’s because we’ve been hard at work to bring you the next version of Aisle Magic. We’ve listened to you and heard that you love Aisle Magic, but want more. We’re excited to unveil a sneak peak at what’s to come in the next month. If you’re already part of our Beta program, you might see some of these features sooner! If you haven’t yet joined, I encourage you to if you’re feeling adventurous. Ok, so here are the top features of Aisle Magic 1.1!

  1. List sharing: We understand that sometimes you like you shop with a friend or spouse, to save even more time buying your groceries. That’s why we’re working on the ability to share lists, login to save data, and sync your lists across devices.
  2. Setting a default store: The majority of time, most of us shop at the same grocery store, so it doesn’t make sense to have to select the same store each time you create a list. We’re enabling the ability to set a favourite store so you can jump right into adding items.
  3. Adding all major Toronto grocery stores: This is a big one. We tested at 40 No Frills, and are ready to expand to every major Grocery chain in Toronto. We’re already hard at work gathering the right data and making sure it’s accurate. Stay tuned for more information on which brands we’re adding!
  4. Voice input: Some of you mentioned that you like to talk to your phone. We think it’s a great way to add items you don’t even know how to spell (except for Gnocchi, we all know how to spell that, right?). Also, it’s quicker than typing, although you can still use AutoComplete or choose items from a list.
  5. Bug fixes: We’re also rigorously testing v1.1 to make sure it’s as bug free as possible. We’re testing on more devices and operating systems to bring you an even smoother experience.

We’re excited about what’s to come. If you want to see other things added to Aisle Magic, hit us up in the comments, or send us an e-mail. We’d be happy to hear from you. Until then, enjoy your summer and we’ll be in touch soon!

Can’t find the pickles? New grocery store app promises to help http://aislemagicapp.com/cant-find-the-pickles-new-grocery-store-app-promises-to-help/ http://aislemagicapp.com/cant-find-the-pickles-new-grocery-store-app-promises-to-help/#respond Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:00:52 +0000 http://aislemagicapp.com/blog/?p=210 Originally featured on CityNews, July 13th, 2016 by News Staff (Link to original):

Eggs, milk, butter. Got it. But what about that one ingredient you only need once or twice a year? Or the time you duck into a No Frills far from home, and you can’t even find the toilet paper?

One app developer wants to help shoppers navigate their way through the grocery store, with aisle-based information.

Aisle Magic promises to save customers “time and effort,” no matter what they’re looking for.

In a blog post on July 7, founder Rajiv Oberoi said shopping trips could be 20 per cent faster with the app.

Users make a grocery list in the app, and then the app shows exactly where each item is, and groups similar items together.

The app is currently only available on Android, and for about 40 No Frills stores in the GTA.

However, the company hopes to expand.

Oberoi isn’t the first developer to target grocery stores: Flashfood allows shoppers to buy surplus or soon-to-be-expired food at a discount, while Flipp is all about comparison shopping. Checkout51, meanwhile, offers customers cash back for buying certain items.

This new Toronto app is like a GPS for the grocery store http://aislemagicapp.com/this-new-toronto-app-is-like-a-gps-for-the-grocery-store/ http://aislemagicapp.com/this-new-toronto-app-is-like-a-gps-for-the-grocery-store/#comments Wed, 13 Jul 2016 13:54:18 +0000 http://aislemagicapp.com/blog/?p=203 Originally featured on BlogTO, July 12th, 2016 by Amy Grief (Link to original):

It’s not always easy to find what you need at the grocery store, but one Toronto-based entrepreneur is trying to change that with a new app called Aisle Magic.

You can create your grocery list with the app, which is currently available for Android users, and it’ll sort each item by aisle based on whatever store you’re shopping at. So far, there are 40 Toronto-area No Frills on Aisle Magic, but founder Rajiv Oberoi wants to expand his offerings.

Oberoi’s not affiliated with No Frills or Loblaws and he started Aisle Magic after some not so pleasant experiences buying food. “I’d get so frustrated with the process because I’d often end up backtracking and running across the store and zigzagging through the aisles to get what I wanted,” he says.

Since aisle signs aren’t always great for wayfinding, he knew he could find a technological solution for this problem.

Along with spitting out guided shopping lists, Aisle Magic lets you quickly search for more than 2,000 different products and items. “My wife will send me to the store looking for tempeh and I have no idea what that is or where to find it, so I can search for it,” notes Oberoi, who works full time in the banking industry.

With his soft launch underway, Oberoi is now looking for user feedback.
